MENTAL HEALTH

Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. This is according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It further states that there is no health without mental health of which the same is more than the absence of psychological disorders.

This feeds greatly into the definition of Health by WHO which is a state of complete physical, MENTAL and social-wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease. Sadly, as clinicians in most developing and underdeveloped countries, the mental aspect is overlooked. In fact, it is stereotyped. Hence a person who is not healthy in this sense feels stigmatized and would rather hide.

I cannot over emphasis the importance of this subject. What I really want to draw attention to is the stigma and stereotypes that surround it.

The causes of poor mental health may include;
Rapid social change
Social exclusion
Physical ill-health
Psychological, emotional and physical abuse
Stressful work and home conditions
Unhealthy lifestyle
Decimation, including that of gender
Human rights violations
Certain psychological and personality factors

Wholeness Bliss is an advocate for mental wellness and strives to cover the aspects of a human being that is likely to disturb your mind and it’s function.
